Payments for wrongfully convicted to be increased
In one of its last decisions, Cabinet has approved changes to compensation paid to those who’ve been wrongfully convicted and jailed. They include increasing the base rate from $100,000 for each year in jail, to $150,000. But, as Mike White discovers, some still criticise the compensation system, and argue no amount of money can ever make up for being wrongly imprisoned.
